The scholarly notes by author Peter Van Der Krogt provide additional context and background to the maps. Every day I enjoy opening to a random page and exploring some new part of the world. If you want to see the world in 1665, this is a perfect coffe table book for browsing. The notes are in English, French and German and the historical sections excellent. The book stand idea for the outer cover really works as it is a heavy tome..
this book is amazing! my coffee table isn't large enough to accommodate it. as always Taschen quality is outstanding. the reproductions are beautiful. it's a book to spend hours with. the price is also amazingly low. thrilled with it!
