Another excellent 'Death on Demand' novel entitled, "Dead by Midnight" by stellar author, Carolyn Hart has been published and I was past excited when the Post Office told me to come and get it!After reading another 5-star "The Uninvited Ghost" by E. J. Copperman, I was ready for more mystery. Ms. Hart always thrills one with multiple murders, not to mention, mental quizzes of past books I've devoured with my eyes.The slow economy has hit South Carolina, even our beloved Broward's Rock where Annie and Max Darling reside. Henny, a dear friend of the couple has a mission to help her friend who was recently discharged from her long-held position of Receptionist at a local law firm. The Wife/Co-Partner of the firm is being cruel and sending out untrue references on Hennys friend. Annie reluctantly hires Pat, the friend, only to be thrilled with her improvement in understanding Murder Mystery Books, to find Pat has either committed suicide or been murdered herself. Annie sets out to aid Henny in finding the truth.We, the reader, joins in the delightful, at times, pursuit of the culprits. Ms. Hart takes us through each step in Annie's and Max's search. You get to know each person involved and meanwhile enjoy the smells, sounds, tastes,and views of Broward's Rock. The ending is both satisfying and makes you desire to see what happens next!Oh, and I did guess 3 of the five posters...read it and see what I'm referring to.

I love this series. Each story is always fresh and new despite the main characters staying true to themselves and each other which might create the sense of boredom after so many installments. They easily become as old friends with whom you share their adventures. I love the settings and quirky folks around their island. The narrator is top notch and has done each of the stories I have listened to. Carolyn Hart is an author whose installments in the DEATH ON DEMAND series I wait for eagerly. Highly recommended by an avid listener, me.

This, in my opinion, is a thoroughly enjoyable, well written series. Not sure why anyone would love living on an island that seems to be overrun with bugs and alligators, but aside from that the characters are easy to relate to and the mysteries are intriguing. I prefer the stories that feature all the regular characters, especially Emma Clyde who is the island's famous resident mystery author.This particular book did not feature everyone, but I still enjoyed it. The fact that the main character, Annie Darling, runs a mystery bookstore, Death On Demand, is probably what attracted me initially to this series. I have not been disappointed.There is one problem, however. Many authors and book titles are mentioned in each story necessitating checking with Amazon to find out what they're about and sometimes ordering same. So, reader beware. There are many more mysteries in each book than the one Annie and her friends are trying to solve.

Again we meet the Darlings in a fun, interesting story of murder most foul, and intrigue. This is the first one, though, where I figured out who dunnit....I just didn't guess why. I love they way Ms Hart weaves in her tried and true characters, especially Laurel, the wacky mother-in-law and her wickedly funny cat posters. These books really would make a great TV series. Read them from the first and follow the lives of the residents of Broward's Rock. And hey mystery fans...Hart's book make a great source of tips of other mysteries that you might enjoy!

I enjoy the characters and the setting of this series. It is not a dark series and is very light reading.

Wonderful book!! As all are books are. She has such vivid characters and great settings.

Annie and Max are at it again. Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series is always entertaining and the characters are like old friends. Carolyn Hart has three series and is the reigning Agatha Christy of mystery writers. Dead by Midnight has some interesting twists and turns and Annie and Max are in the middle of another island mystery. If you have not read Carolyn Hart, you'll quickly pick up on the characters and want to go back and read another book from her Death on Demand series.

This book is great if you're interested in tree identifying, which I have recently taken up. There are multiple detailed photos and descriptions per tree, which I love. The paper is high quality and while it's big, it is light enough to take out with you for some field work. Downsides: the page numbers don't always line up (it skips from page 224 to page 257, then from 288 to 225) which isn't good for a reference book, as at first you will be depending on the index to find content. Also, I wish they elaborated more on the Willamette Valley, as that's where I'm from - there's more Eastern Oregon shrubs than anything.

The pictures and descriptions in this book are great-if you can identify what you're looking at, which is no small feat. If you have a basic understanding of botany and dendrology to the point of knowing the plant or tree family by observing the specimen then I imagine this book would be useful. If not, you might have to flip through 100 or more pages looking at pictures trying to find a match. This book would greatly benefit from better identifying tools such as a dichotomous key.

A terrific resource for anyone who wants to know more about the trees and plants they encounter while outdoors. It comes especially handy while hiking with the kids because I can use the book as an excuse to rest for a couple of minutes while I identify the same species of shrub or tree for the 20th time.I own 40 acres in the mountains and have used this book extensively. It is set-up such that identification is quick and easy. It's also a fun learning tool to use with my kids!I have owned a couple of other tree and shrub identification books and find this superior to all of the others, including the highly touted Audubon Society identification book.

well illustrated and covers a lot of plants in a relatively small portable size. the treatment of the many different and frankly confusing willow species is excellent. not perfect with some obvious errors (for example ptelia crenulata/California hoptree is (rightly) called a California endemic but the range map shows it growing in southern Oregon) but for such a large and diverse area with so many plants it's hard to see how it could be. .well worth buying and using in the area it covers.

Informative and includes a myriad of species, more than I would have imagined. I only gave it 4 stars, vs. 5, due to the not-so-sharp quality of the pictures, which are in color. If the photography had been as sharp as they should have been, then this would have been a stellar, 5 star book. But, it still very good to have, regarding knowledge about the so many types of trees and shrubs there are, here, in the Pacific Northwest, which is surprising to learn and become aware of.

This is a very comprehensive work and can definitely be taken into the field with you. Not too big, and photos have enough detail to be helpful.

Well written, and has useful information for trees for which I know the names. I find it hard to find a tree in the book when I do not already know the name or general species. I do not like the ”flexibound” binding on the book, but binding type was my choice and does not impact quality of book content.

Nice book. The flex cover or whatever they call it is waterproof so, being in the NW, it helps. Lots of detail but also a lot of BS. Still worth it!

The knowledge and wisdom contained therein has a very surreal way of finding that area where growth is needed, drawing you into the storyline, and making their story of success very personal. With each area of growth needed, the tools for successs are provided. The rest is up to you!

I was in tears reading the intro as so much of what was said resonated with me. Sam is real and shares her story in such a sensitive and touching way that you immediately connect with her and want to sit and have coffee together so you can learn from her and soak up all of her insight and wisdom! It is hard to pick a favorite chapter because they each have a focus that resonates with me which makes me want to keep reading and reading. First, the stars are for the print edition, not the Kindle edition. As with a large portion of Dover's extensive catalog of books of all types, this is a reproduction of a score that is now in the public domain with a few added notes. You get the scores in a very affordable edition with all its original errors intact, which, for the most part, aren't going to bother the typical purchaser of these editions. If you want the most up-to-date and accurate edition, prepare to pay more than these scores -- you'll be helping to keep music scholarship alive in the process.I had intended to purchase the print copy but accidentally purchased the Kindle edition. Since I'd already purchased it, I decided to check it out on first on my 7" Nook HD with the Kindle Reader. It displayed two tiny and completely unreadable pages at a time. I couldn't find any Android Kindle Reader setting to show only one page with a score at a time so I tried the Kindle Reader on my 1920 x 1080 resolution laptop. Here, it only displayed one page at a time as I had wanted, but it was still nearly unreadable. Because it is musical score, it has to display each page as an image except that the way they've scanned and formatted it, it has enormous borders so you need a huge screen to view it. Depending upon the device, you may be able to blow up the view, but then you have to close that view and then turn to the next page and blow up the next page. I also tried a free PDF download of a different edition of the score and found that even with that edition, because the music flies by when performed resulting in rapid page turns and the huge repeats, it is really impractical to use ANY electronic version of the score if you intend to follow it while listening.I returned the Kindle copy and purchased the print copy as I had originally intended.

These 8-1/2x11" miniature scores, though reduced, remain quite readable, though the 5-1/2x8" and smaller reductions tend to be smeary and hard to read.

I have grown increasingly fond of using tablets for musical scores, but this item is simply unusable in that way. The pages are scanned at low resolution, so the notes are fuzzy even if you zoom in on the page. You have to stare at the screen very hard to identify each note, and after an hour of trying I simply gave up. The print version is fine, but I made the mistake of buying the kindle version, and it now has the distinction of being the first kindle item for which I will be requesting a refund.

It's really convenient that symphony #8-9 are together. I love the lay-flat binding... BUT!!!! There aren't ANY measure numbers. Who does that? I knocked off one star because I have spent a couple hours now numbering all my measures. Huge waster of time! Otherwise, the print is easy to read.

These Dover score editions are best known for their low prices. For the Beethoven symphonies, these are pretty much just reproductions of the 1865 Litolff edition, which contains numerous mistakes that were corrected in later, better editions. The 9x12 format is good for the full score format, making it easy to view all the orchestral parts at the same time. The note heads are big enough to be clearly legible.Knowing the deficiency of the source edition, my major complaint is there are no measure numbers so it's a big inconvenience for anyone wishing to study specific points in the score.BTW, all these are available for free download as PDF on [...]. But for me, having these in a book format beats having to print out page after page of PDF which gets messy.

Dover company sought to create a literal music text by directly printing the original score from the 19th Century.

The usual Dover score. Readable, no rehearsal letters or measure numbers, Price is good.Nothing more to say, but Amazon requires more words, hence this final sentence.
