About the Author

Zhang Ting-liang, Dipl. Ac., was born in Shanghai. He graduated from college with a B.A. degree in English. Because of his lifetime interest in Chinese medicine, he got a job as translator at the Shanghai College of Chinese Medicine where he met Bob Flaws in 1982. Zhang was Bob's translator in 1982 and 83 and Honora's translator in 198 and 8 . In 1985, Bob asked Zhang to translate a book on Chinese medical gynecology. This was subsequently published by Blue Poppy Press as A Handbook of Traditional Chinese Gynecology. In 1986, Bob and Honora sponsored Zhang to come to the United States. Zhang came to the United States as a B.A. student in psychology at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, CO. At the same time, Zhang taught and studied at Bob and Honora's small acupuncture school, the Dechen Yonten Dzo Institute of Chinese Medicine. Zhang graduated from both schools and went on to become a registered acupuncturist in the State of Colorado. He also became a social worker for Asian immigrants in Denver. Zhang's other publishing credits include translating A Handbook of Traditional Chinese Dermatology; Shaolin Secret Formulas; and The Treatment of Cancer by Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine. Zhang currently conducts a general private practice in acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Boulder, CO where he lives with his wife, Yu Mei, and son, Jing.

It's a great reference with many samples to kickstart from whatever level you actually want to start from. That's why I'd like to recommend the book to you and every serious Java developer using JDBC.

Outdated, and a bit pedantic. Buy it used, it's available for cheap. Worthwhile skimming over if you do any JDBC programming.

If you are an experienced or intermediate programmer this is the only book you will need. Almost every bit of the JDBC is explaind. The API in the second part of the book is also very good, it is filled with explanations that the javadoc lacks.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced JDBC programmer you will find useful information in this book. The book is divided into two sections. The first section is a tutorial on using JDBC which makes up four chapters. The tutorial starts with a look at JDBC 1.0. The next chapter looks at the additional features added to JDBC in 2.0 and 3.0. The third tutorial chapter looks at metadata. The final chapter examines the RowSet interface, which is complex enough to need its own chapter.The remainder of the book (about 800 pages) is a reference containing a chapter for each class or interface in JDBC. Each chapter contains an overview of a class or interface, sections on anything of either special interest or complexity, and then a list of all the methods of the class or interface with complete descriptions. If a section applies to a particular version of JDBC, the version it applies to is clearly marked. The information contained in the reference is much more than you can find in the APIs. The reference section itself is well laid out to make the information you need easy to find.This is probably the only JDBC book you will ever need. No matter which version of JDBC your database drivers support, you will find your answers in this book. The book is well written with clear explanations and plenty of code samples (which can be downloaded from the Sun web site) . Anyone working with JDBC will want this book by their side while they are coding.

You will also have to reference the ODBC specification at times for some of the more arcane transaction semantics and such. Of course, any real database application is going to involve threads, and there is virtually no discussion of threads in this book, either. This book's singular focus on JDBC is what makes it what it is.Like most Java books, it is overdue for an upgrade.

(Why? ---> FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS take time to build. Get exposure in EVERY safe form you can!! While this book isn’t a deep reference for anyone with experience, I have found it to be one of the better books to recommend to young ladies who have no previous exposure to the shooting sports. The book is not specific to ladies and works equally well for young men who ask for an introduction. There is a very good overview description of all the different types of formal and informal shooting sports, but especially firearms. The volume just brushes on the air gun world or archery, but that doesn’t detract from what it does for pistols, rifles, and shotguns. It gives a good perspective to those who are starting from scratch and even those who have some experience in one or two areas but not the others. She then does a good job of introducing how to get started in general, with basics and fundamentals that are common to static and moving targets of all kinds, and good descriptions of equipment and rules. A good volume for kids with no family background and even those with at least a limited background.

If you are remotely interested in the looking into the action shooting sports, buy this.It is very well written and it was exactly what I was needing.Julie Golob uses plain language (doesn't talk above your head w/ shooter's lingo) and encourages you to research the sport.

What can you say? This book is a great intro into the world of competitive shooting. I just couldn't stand still in a lane and punch holes in paper any longer. I love shooting, but was getting bored. I have begin doing some local matches and with the help of this book I am learning a ton. Read this if you want to get into competitive shooting. Read this if you love America! Just read it!

Julie Golob is a remarkable woman. She is the penultimate ambassador for the shooting sports, safety and conservation. This books covers anything you wanted to know about the different types of competitions with guns. A must for any shooters library of manuals.

Very well writen, very knowledgeable. Written for novice women. Julie obviously wrote this for women interested in defensive shooting and shooting sports. If your a novice and want to get an understanding of competition shooting this book is for you. Julie covers beginning gun handling and all the basic you will need for competition shooting.

If you're new to the shooting sports or just want some guidance as to your next steps, this is a must read. Julie shares her vast knowledge in an easy and fun to read book that educates as it entertains. From seasoned pros to first time shooters, there's something in here for everybody.

Not for the seasoned shooter, but very well written, and easy to understand for new shooter. Would definitely recommend for anyone new to the shooting world.Wish it would have been more geared to the competitive shooter.
