This is an excellent short introduction, completely painless, just a delight. To say that the author displays vast erudition in a modest way is an understatement -- I was in awe at how much Kerr was able to work into this tight space. It is sketchy, but sketchy like a Blue Guide to Paris -- these are the big questions, this is where to look, and so on. Most of it is structured around the Summa T., and one could do worse than have it nearby if one is going to tackle the Summa. The last chapter is sort of weird -- short bits of how Aquinas influenced later work -- it ranges from the debate over the status of the peoples of the new world to the very obscure Thomists of the early 19th century (this looks like undigested material in prep for his book on 20th century catholic theologians). There's no mention of Richard Hooker or the later fate of the natural law tradition. But I didn't really mind, given the quality of the rest of the text. In terms of "beginner's guides" I would give this to a real beginner, the next level up would be Feser or Kenny (my personal favourite from long ago), and then maybe Brian Davies, and the older but still valuable Copleston, Gilson, etc.

This is exactly what it says it is. The book is small, looks quite nice, and is a short read. It deals with Aquinas' philosophy as much as his life, and does a good job of condensing it, though of course it does not get into any of his intricate arguments. Not a substitute for reading Aquinas by any stretch, but it was never intended to be. Instead, it's a great book to look through before reading his actual works.

A very Good introduction to Thomas Aquinas and his philosophy Per summa theologica. For example the book discusses The evolution of property rights from the virtue of justice.

Great details of the life of an historical influence on the battle to change the world veiw on religion. Highly recommended for reading.

I have not yet read the book, but I wanted to get some information on this saint in a format that would be easy to read and absorb. I am very pleased that I could find a book such as this for my library.

I am currently a licensed Agent in California and relocated to Louisiana. I purchased several books to study for the National and State portions of the exam to be a licensed Agent in Louisiana as well. California does not participate in multiple state licenses like others do, thus it is called the Bureau of Real Estate. Most of the concepts are the same, but there are some agency law differences. This book is excellent! I went to Office Depot and made three copies of every sections test and three copies of the national exam test(there are three versions at the end of this book). I simply recapped the sections and took the tests after each section and repeated the process there after. The material is clear, concise, and easy to read. I just want facts when I study, not the authors perspective. This book has that. Invest in the book and take the tests and you will pass the exam. Overall, it will be much less expensive than paying PSI $85 to take the exam multiple times. Really an excellent book! Good job guys!

Lend me your ears, I'm going to sound like James Brown here, Please , Please, Please, do yourself a big favor & get this excellent book, and let me give you a few tips when taking the exam, first and foremost, relax, read each question 3 times before you make a decision, don't spend more than 4 min. on each question, move on mark that question, that you are having trouble with and come back to it. This book really goes into detail and helps you move along, and slowly builds your confidence. Trust me, you will pass take a deep breath and "Relax" before this book, I had some trouble with the math, and this book will help you!! PSI, also, has a practice test for $19, you can take before you take the test, that is also worth it. This book is a hands down 5 STARS, Superb!!

Informative but could be a bit easier to use. It is not easy to look up information if you are not sure which chapter the info should be in. Table of contents info is a bit vague. The glossary too could reference a page so you could find where the term is used. The answer key answers for each chapter diagnostic test do reference the page number. If you are new to Real Estate (that's why you bought this book) many terms are new to you or the Real Estate use of the word is unfamiliar. I am taking the course on line for Maryland and some of the Book and on line definitions are a bit different and or not emphasized in the book as they are for the state course. I didn't care much for the on line course myself. I think if I had the time I would take the course in the classroom.

As I am going through my brokers exam find that with the many licenses and exams taken in my life it is important to study and practice the testing materials and format of questions that needs to be learned when taking police, law, real estate exams the language use and test preparations are all different and those out there who are writing these books should prepare their students with a specific format to pass the exam(s).

Passed the test the first time!!

I purchased this book as an additional study guide to help with the R.E. exam. It's great! I went through each chapter (pretty much in line with the 60 hr class I took) and took the quizzes after each one. These questions are written like the exam is written. The guide provides the correct answers - and the reasons why - along with the page the info can be found on. The full exams at the back of the book were also very helpful. There is a full chapter on math calculations - made it easy! I dove into this book for two solid weeks - then 5 days prior to the actual exam I ordered and took the online sample exam from PSI. It was a huge help also! Passed my R.E. exams first time!! Money well spent!

It's the kind of book that leaves you asking questions long after finishing it, and realizing that the answers are right there in the pages you've just read. The best book I've read in the past year.

“Lost and Wanted”, by Nell Freudenberger, is unlike any novel I’ve ever read, but ultimately, I just couldn’t get into it.Single mother and theoretical physicist, Helen Clapp, narrates tale. Helen’s Harvard roommate and once dear friend, Charlotte (Charlie), has died and her phone has been stolen…or has it? Why is Helen getting new messages from Charlie?I read science articles for my work, so I’m not especially confounded by astrophysics, quantum cosmology or black holes; but for a story that is supposed to be primarily about friendship, grief, race, women in male-dominated fields, and more, all the science “explanations” just bogged it down.

It is unusual and exciting to encounter such a complex protagonist as this sophisticated woman scientist -- who is extremely successful in her career, but also -- like author Nell Freudenberger -- dedicated to explaining complex scientific principles in ways that non-scientists can understand and find inspiring. Helen's identify as a physicist is intimately woven into her experiences as a mother, friend, lover, and colleague as the novel explores parent-child relationships, adult separations and loving connections with poignancy and insight. I loved the insights into the relationships between parents and their children -- especially the curious school-age children who are just entering the stage of loss of innocence and grappling with the deepest questions of invisible forces, time and space, love and death. The communications between these children and the astrophysicist mom are only one of the trajectories of the novel that illuminate human collision, conflict, and intimate bonding. This novel is a fascinating reading adventure -- filled with humor, affection, longing, and searching. It had a memorable impact on me long after I finished reading.

I was lucky enough to read a galley of Lost and Wanted, and was deeply moved by the story, the portrait of friendship, and the different ways we process loss. There's a punch you in the gut moment (you'll know what it is when you get there) that has stayed with me for months. Freudenberger is a beautiful writer and a deep thinker, and her facility to explain quantum physics is jaw-dropping and expertly done. This is a must-buy, must-read, must give to your friends book.
